Declaration and Appeal
One of the main targets of the Foundation Studium Academicum is to uphold the Christian values which should also be the basis of the Rumanian society. The Foundation which was officially registered in the year 2000 use to organise conferences with social-ethical contents yearly. A conference of this type was held at 28-29th of October. Near Non Governmental Organisations there were present also political parties from Holland and Romania. The subject of the conference was: “Ethical questions and Christian answers (euthanasia, birth control, organ transplant, abortion) in the secularised Europe - Romanian reference”.
At the conference there were formulated fundamental medical and theological opinions regarding to the respect and dignity of the human life. Their essence is that life begins with the conception and it holds until the natural/unforced death. This is valid especially for those human life’s (babies, unconscious sick people) who can’t protect themselves (see the statement UNESCO from October 2005).
The participants of the conference suggested to keep Christian values and standards in view also in the legislation (in bio-ethical questions). Through this way there could be avoid the unacceptable abortion, the genetically manipulation, the unethical trade with organs and the euthanasia. They propose accentuated to introduce the use of the humanitarian “paliativ care” (providing of untreatable sick people) into Romania.
The participants of the conference still propose to the representatives of the different denominations and civil organisations from Romania to uphold the present viewpoint and to impress the jurisdiction to enforce the Christian theological and ethical standpoints.
At last the Foundation Studium Academicum proposes to the representatives of the different denominations and civil organisations to ask the Romanian government for expressing the year 2007 as the “Year of the respect and of the protection of life”. It should separate the necessary organising financial sources.
