Relationship between belief and sciences

The co-operation possibility of the Foundation Studium Academicum and the Karl-Heim Society could be imagined in organising of different common seminaries.

This regarding was taken one’s turn the first travel seminar of Rev. Hermann Hafner - former director, member of the presidium of the Karl-Heim Society - in Transylvania.

2nd of September 2006 - Temesvár

Einstein and the religion” was the theme of the lecture held in the small community of the reformed reverends in the reformed diocese of Temesvár. The coming people have attended with big interest the introduction kept by the guest referent in the congregation room of the Lutheran Church of Temesvár

The world conception and interpretation of the religion of Einstein suggested an interesting and deep seeking, which was escorting him to the end of his life.

“A religious man in that sense is religious, whether he doesn’t mistrust the meaning and sublimity of contents and aims out of person, which is no possible, and no necessary to be intelligent justified.”

The lecture hold in the small group was flowed into a friendly and profound discussion, which was continued after the official finish of the seminar at the organised agape.

3rd of September 2006 - Kolozsvár

Some invited guest church members and pastors from the town completed the collectivity of the sermon in the afternoon of the Reformed Church of Bulgáriatelep.

"Calling away - the place of the people in the World” - The nearly missionary establishments of Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy - lawyer, linguist, sociologist - have made a unfathomable impression in the audience constituted by a great strength of youth and adults.

“We have to learn to make distinction between the God who allow us to talk, and the Gods who are applying pressure.”

“Thankfulness for the difference between the compulsion and calling, because so we can differ the God from the Gods.”

Even if we do not have any time for discussion after the lecture, the interest of the audience was expressed through their request - spoken to the colleague of the Foundation Studium Academicum - to have access to the written lecture.

4th of September 2006 - Marosvásárhely

The Reformed Church of Cserealja was filled too with pastors and members of congregations through the invitation for the seminar.

The lecture “What is saying the Bible about the people in the light of the questions formulated concerning to the gene technology” has enumerated some basic suggestions as: the people, creature in the creation of God; the wisdom and the limits of wisdom of the people; the temptation of the science and of the technique regarding the people. In this way has been formulated the question: Is the science a happy and thankful mode of acquisition of knowledge given by God or it is a forced stretching after the stars, atoms and genes therefore to can hold in one’s hand everything?

After the lecture was developed an intensive discussion, which came to the result of couching and appreciating of the different theological and ethical questions.

At the end the referent has established through the scientific-ethical interpretation of the build of the tower from Babel: if the total science is breaking out it may cost crisis for the life.

5th of September 2006 - Zilah

To the occasion organised together with EC Alliance from Zilah were coming just a few participants.

In the lecture “You will be as God! The people between the knowing and unknowing” was presented the biblical story of the temptation, of the people on the way of its dream of knowing.

In the temptation story - the touching of the tree of knowledge - it can be recognised the following process:

  • We start to think.
  • Which limits is contained the interdiction?
  • What is meaning? What is in behind of it?
  • If this interdiction wouldn’t exist.?
  • It would be possible to imagine everything.
  • We try it.
  • The dream of knowing is allured.
  • The success: sobering knowledge - shame, fear, hiding, the lost of the paradise
  • We could know it.

The small group could formulate its question and remarks in a familiar discussion.

6th of September 2006 - Szatmárnémeti

To the extraordinary meeting of the women alliance of the Reformed Church Szamosnegyed were coming a lot of youth, adults and of course members of the women alliance.

The guest referent in his lecture “.and him only shalt thou serve! - Point of views for the biblical judgement of the technical development” has queried answers for the question, what is motivating the technical development?

He has indicated the following possible answers:

  • practical necessities of life
  • needs for new and advanced work equipment
  • necessities of war and armament equipment
  • the dream of the world power
  • the dream of the glinting, degree and records
  • the rapture of the rapidity and flying
  • the magical circle of the technology and automation
  • the wish to reconstruct us own

The lecture based on the Mt. 4, 8-11 (“Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and him only shalt thou serve”) has accentuated: it can not be and it most not be done everything for the supremacy upon the world, and in the same time it is not accepted to set the development against belief.

At the end of the travel seminar the Foundation Studium Academicum and the Karl-Heim Society have concluded that in the further time it is also possible the collaboration in organising similar seminars, with the precise description of the target group and the inquiry.
